ABS ASR lights came on

both lights came on while l was parking the car. after restarting the engine lights did not come on again and have not come on ever since.

is this a sign of a pending problem? checked some threads and overvoltage relay seems to be the culprit.
any ideas what to do or look for before this causes a breakdown?
thanks in advance.

Same thing happened to me with my E420 and has not re-appeared since. I believe I have seen comments here where it could be a voltage change that causes this and could be OVP. Not sure if my year '95 has OVP but believe your model does. I'm sure we will see some responses from those that know more.

Could be the sign of an alternator fading away-keep an eye on it, and ensure you have a strong battery in case it fails-a strong battery will keep a car with no alternator moving for at least a short ways, but this is rough on a lead acid battery

I don't know if you saw my post on this subject, but when mine did the same thing, turned out to be the brake lamp switch. Only way to track such a problem down is to pull the stored codes from the computer. Could be many different things.

Hello Arif

Check the fuses, sometimes they become intermitent and can cause that problem.
The fuse is the same for ABS and ASR.

Good luck

Could be the Voltage Regulator. The lights probably came on as a result of low voltage. A bad altenator and/or voltage regulator can do strange and mysterious things!
