Cant turn off engine

Hi I have a 2002 slk 230 special edition..problem is I can start the car, but I cant turn it off, I can take the key out but the engine is still running...(everything else turns off except the engine)I have to stop it by taking out the fuel pump fuse, then disconnect the battery as dash is all lite up .
Any ideas? do I need a new tumbler in the ignition or a whole new assembly.
Thanks for any advise.

Kind of sounds like it might be new ignition switch time. Not familiar enough with the newer generation to suggest anything else other than might be a good idea to visit a dealer or indy.
