Dear Friends,

I have a light green metallic 1984 300d with 230ks on the clock.

It's been going nicely until recently when I had to have its fuel pump replaced and injection pump timing reset.

The latest development is a strange screaming sound. The engine begins to squeal only after a certain number of revs has been reached and stops if I either increase or decrease the revs. After a few minutes, however, it stops.

I realise this might be one of the V-Belts but I don't have the expertise to tell if they are too loose or excessively worn...

Any tips about the V-Belts or other causes of that spooky scream?

Thanks in advance,

David.

P.S. How cool is this list?! Thank you to all responsible!

Sure sounds like a loose belt, the alternator belts have to work hard after starting but the A/C belt is almost always the one to cause the most noise. So shut the climate control system off to see if the noise goes away!

Dear M.B.Doc,

Thanks for that. Getting the belts checked tomorrow morning...

Cheers,

David.
