M104 EGR Pipe 'ferrule'
I am replacing my EGR pipe on my M104.980 and ordered the parts for it from looking at the EPC diagrams. I'm not sure how the ferrule attaches onto the pipe, it sort of just slides around. Is this supposed to be crimped with a special tool or does it just naturally seal when I install it as is?

John, it seems to me the ferrule should be slipped off and turned so the thinner section goes through the nut. As you tighten the nut, with the tube pushed tight against the mating part, the ferrule will crimp on the tube end.

Best to wait for more opinions but I would say that you have the ferrule the right way around. You should be able to tell from the one that you are removing.
The nut does the crimping when you tighten it down. Make sure the pipe is all the way in when you tighten the nut as you won't be able to move the ferrule once crimped. |

John, I took a look at the EGR tube on a 1995 E320 that I am dismantling. The orientation of the ferrule in your picture is correct. Tightening the nut will crimp the ferrule to the tube.
