On occasion I have noticed a "clunk" while coming out of a turn and the trans is shifting down. It acts like the downshift is too slow, and lets the engine rpm climb a bit before engaging. Is this normal, or indicative of a problem. The trans fluid is pink and clear.

There have been numerous modifications to this Transmission & your trans needs to have someone very " SHARP " with M.B.'s drive the car to see what the problem you are having.
Possibly some minor repair could help.
