Adjsuting the chain tensioner

Can someone guide me through how to rachet the chain tensioner properly, once you install a new chain tensioner? Or is this basically done by itself with the oil?

Before you install the chain tensioner, you must remove the inside ratcheter from the housing by pulling it out. Then push the tensioner housing in at least one click so that the detent spring will hold it from coming back --- the oil pressure will do the rest.:D

Have fun getting the tensioner cap screw back on while exerting pressure on the spring. It'll exercise your patience for sure :)

Good luck with the work!

inside racheter

Paul,

All I see once I remove the cap and the spring is a large nut and then the tensioner. What does the racheter look like?

The chain tensioner looks like a single piece when in fact it isn't. Pull the pointed end with some pliers and the inner ratcheter will come out with an o-ring (detent spring) near the end. Now put it back in the front until you feel a couple of clicks and then install it... then the big ring nut that holds tensioner in place, then cap with spring behind it.

Good luck!
