Hi there,
Just found this website from the postings on the MBCA digest. Great Site! I've only had a few things happen to our nearly one year old E430. So far so good. One of the little things is a little bit of wind noise when car is at speeds over 70 mph. It sounds like a rattling noise coming from the sunroof. It's real faint, but since the car is pretty quiet, this noise stands out. Anyone know what to check? It may not be the sunroof/moonroof, but it sure sounds like it's coming from there. Thanks again, Travis '98 E430 |
Haven't seen this yet but I'll be on the look out!!

You can help find the noise by moving the sunroof (very slightly) to pop-up or open, & listen for any change in noise. Also when the noise happens have someone touch the roof & (apply pressure) to different areas of the "headliner". Let us know what happens.

First thing I would do is remove anything from the interior of the car that might make some kind of noise. (that doensn't belong there or isn't naturally part of the car) So if you have a jacket, wife's purse, briefcase, etc take it out and listen. After that you may also want to have someone else drive the car and you listen from several different seating positions. Sometimes the acoustics can have you chasing echos. If it sounds like it is coming from the sunroof area from anywhere then you probably have your location. Then pressure point test till you find the culprit. Once you do post back to us and we can help you out from there.
