will an early distributor cap fit a 1984 280e w123

I bought the wrong wires. I bought the wires that fit the small terminal distributor cap which I assume is the early distributor caps.
I have the large terminal cap.
since I need a new cap, can I buy an small terminal (what the spark plug wire snap on to) and use it on an 1984 distributor
my car is an 1984 280e. im stateside.
my benz was a private conversion and shipped over so its got all the euro features like manual windows manual sunroof 4 speed euro bumpers cloth seats

g:

1) Are the caps the same diameter? Does the "small terminal" cap fit the distributor?

2) It would help if you can provide some metrics, and other objective information to lend definition to the terms "small" and "large".

3) Pictures also would help.

I can get you the cap part number off mine if you like. Later ones do not interchange. Your old one has it written somewhere. Its a Bosch number so no MB designation. I believe it starts with a 0 or 1. It cross references to a porsche part. They are pricey. At least $55.
