Post A few questions about a w124 (UK)

I have just got my hands on an '86 w124 200e 2.0l, apart from damage to the front wings the bodywork of the car is in great shape, I have ordered 2 new front wings and am getting them fitted and sprayed to match the paint next week.
My questions:
1) The drivers seat is threadbare on the right hand side, where can I get a new seat from (cloth material)?
2) My car has manual window winders in the back, I am thinking of changing them to electrical, can anyone tell me where to start?
3) My car looks like it was at the bottom of the range and it does not have many features, can anyone tell me what is available?
--------
Does anyone else from the northwest of england use this?
--------
Thanks
JD

breakers

1. I’m assigned in the UK right now and when I ask the same questions most people tell me to go the breakers see this post: In the UK

2. Being close to Manchester you should have a lot of places to choose from.

3. As for features I’m not sure in the UK, in the US you never see a “strip down” Mercedes everything is much standard equipment I was shock when I saw window winders and no sun roof when I came over here.

4. Oh one last thing I know you already ordered the wings, but if you plan to keep the value of you car see if you can have it repaired go to the “panel beaters” in the US I know it will cost a little more and hard to find anyone who will do it because now a days it’s less expensive to replace then repair I don’t know how it is in the UK. But if you have the original part, your VIN # is on it (look on top to the sides of both original paneling) and that what keeps the value of the car, sometimes it stop further investigations if the car was ever in any accidents.

5. Replace rather then repair works on computer boards but on your car paneling it’s a different concept in my opinion since the industry wants the original.

Living in Europe you should not have any trouble upgrading your 200E.

Everything you ask for is offered directly by Mercedes-Benz, as original equipment. Just visit your local M.B. dealer. The cloth seat cover is easily replaced and when done looks great.

You may fit an aftermarket electric window kit for the two front windows or all 4 windows. Mercedes-Benz offers them with all parts, cables, motors and switches included, and by M.B. standards, it is NOT really expensive. What might run you hi is on labor costs. The kit comes with the appropiate hole covers for the doors matching your interior upholstery.

Almost every extra offered by Mercedes-Benz can be retroffited aftermaket. Some are easy to do, other take a lot of time and money. The only ones that are too EXPENSIVE to think about are: electric sunroof, electric power front seats and auto transmission.

Not too expensive and might improve the look and feel on your car: rear foldable head-rests, rear electric sunshade, air-conditioning and new design light-alloy wheels.

Smile another 200E !!

Hi

was kinda lonely being one of the only 200E W124's around here. I kinda thought that a 4 speed 2 litre MB was a real scarce item (although there's quite a few on the roads around here ...)

I have a 93 so it has most of the 'upmarket' stuff - apart from the sunroof and automatic rear headrests though ...

I'm in the south-east of England..

I know what you're feeling.. I'm glad my two MBs are highly optioned, both have 4 electric windows & roof, rear headrests, original 15 hole alloys, auto, 190 has MBtex seats, 300 has electric leather & climate control.

There are plenty of MB breakers, I would look into finding some MBtex (very, very similar to leather, tougher wearing, cheaper) or leather seats from one - this will probably be cheaper than you'd think, and will improve the car *massively*, making it feel much more expensive & luxury.
Also, many companies will re-cover the seats with leather, i would definitely look into this if you may have to re-cover the cloth anyway.

Similarly, I would go for some original MB alloys (15-hole), but I searched everywhere for a good condition full set for under £300, and in the end bought poor condition ones and had them repainted & re-lacquered.

I keep seeing neglected ultra-basic MBs with huge, out of place shiny alloy wheels - why?
This would ruin about the only remaining thing such an MB has going for it - it's ride quality.
Why don't the people spend the money on the parts of the car that need it first? Glad to see your fixing up the damage & the bits that *need* improving!

I am actually from Manchester central, Northwest England!!

You could try the scrapy, and refer to the Autotrader, many of the ad on the back of it.

I know a few place have used parts for the Merc, email me, and I could send you some link.

hope this could help!
