Did you check the fuses? I know this sounds dumb but people overlook it. I had the same problem and I blew a fuse.

What codes did the mechanic find?

I believe it was lower assembly. I did not write down exactly what was shown.

any other ideas?

here is a quick update..
1. verified that my window switch assemblies are working by installing the assembly in a friends ML500. also installed his in my ML and no power windows, sunroof and power mirrors as before

2. addressed a ground issue at the ground point under the drivers seat. had to clean up some corrosion and it tested fine after that.

grasping at straws here...

Your car is really too new for me to care about and research in depth, but if I had the problem I would forget about diagnostic codes and go directly to the electrical schematic drawing to locate a common point for the windows, sunroof and mirrors. Without more, I urge you to reexamine the fuse panel since fuses are not always as they appear and corrosion on the holders can be difficult to detect. Fuse panels often have hidden connections on their back side that can fail as well. Have you checked that you are indeed getting power on the consumer side of all fuses? Considering the power consumption or the sunroof alone, I would be looking for a fuse with a larger capacity than that of its mates on the panel.

turns out that fuse F31 for the "rear hinge windows and side mirror lights" also supplies power to the lower sub panel assembly that controls the power windows, sunroof and power mirrors. I must have removed the fuse when I was replacing all the fuses. I replace all the fuses on any cars that I purchase to give me a baseline on maintenance.

popped in a 15 fuse and all is well....
