w126 rear brake anti-rattle clip screech
I replaced my 1983 380sel's rear brake discs, pads and hardware with Centric parts and was rewarded with a cyclical, metal-on-metal screeching sound while driving. After ruling out sticky calipers, parking brake shoes and wheel bearings, I realized the Centric rotors have part numbers stamped into their sides, and the anti-rattle clip was riding along the rotor and screeching on those part numbers like a turntable needle. I knocked down the part numbers with a sharpening stone and the screech is now heard only on turns and much fainter.
My question: Is the w126 rear brake anti-rattle clip / spring retainer supposed to make contact with the rotor? This could just be a poor aftermarket part quality problem. |

db:
Compare the outside diameter of the new rotors with that of the ones removed. |

I'll order ATE rear brake rotors and hardware and compare outside rotor diameters to the Centric 12135002 rotors and the ones removed from the car.
My early W126 uses a dowel pin for rear brake rotor alignment, not a screw as in later versions. The Centric rotors have a loose fit at this dowel pin, so it's possible the rotors aren't centered well and are scraping the anti-rattle clips as a result. Maybe I got what I paid for with $13 brake rotors, or the clips are too long or something. |

derburger, the rotors should be hub-centered and not reliant on the dowel or set screw for alignment. Rotors for $13 smacks of Chinese junk, and not recommended for use on a MB vehicle.

Have been doing a turn key brake job on all 4 corners. Rebuilt ATE calipers. Unfortunately they came with pins/spring plate for either a Bendix/Girling unit.
Not saying this is your problem - just throwing it out.

For posterity, I replaced the Centric rear rotors with Zimmermann ones and solved the weird screeching problem. The Zimmermann rotors have a slightly smaller outside diameter than the Centrics and clear the anti-rattle clip.
