Does anyone know the procedure for properly replacing the power steering hoses on a 1995 E420?


I sent it to a shop who told me they could do it only to find that the mechanic decided he couldn't. I now have to tow the car out and start all over or do it myself.

I'm not so sure why there are having a problem, I'd expect this car to be pretty straight forward.

This isn't a front drive car that has the hose snaking all around the engine to the steering rack.

What did they take apart so far?

I do not think they took anything off...Ria at Pelican parts sent me the two hoses and what I could determine is that a lift was essential because both hoses run under the left side of the motor. I also think that the motor mount has to be separated and the engine raised and that is the part that I need to find out about.
But I am in a part of Arizona where a MBZ E420 has not been worked on...ever!

So I need steps and diagrams!

Sorry to say the biggest problem is getting in to remove the old p/s hoses Looks to me that a lot of parts will need removing . And far above the scope of your garage .Just ask some one else .Do a google search on the repair to see who will tackle it for you .

Can you snap a photo of the engine compartment? The only complication I can think of would be if it had SLS. Otherwise, it's a pressure line and a return. The pressure line has flare fittings on either end, the return is held in place with ordinary clamps. There's no special procedure involved, and no bleeding necessary. Just drain the reservoir, replace the hoses, add fluid and go.
