190D/E Climate Control Pushbutton Unit
Question on different part numbers for the A/C pushbutton control unit in the center console...the one in my 1987 190D turbo is 201-830-07-85. This part number is NLA from MBZ. I have a seemingly identical pushbutton control unit from a 1992 190E that has the part number 201-830-09-85- it is identical in every way to the unit from my 190D (all pushbuttons are the same with the same functions and has the same electronic attaching pins) except the temperature roller wheel in my 190D is printed in celcius scale where the 190E is in Fahrenheit. Are they interchangeable?...I know MBZ had slightly differing temp stickers over the years for otherwise seemingly identical control unit...some say "max" or "min" at the ends of the scale where others just have a "dot" at the ends of the scale. I'm pretty certain MBZ would go to the trouble of having a new part number for each of these "cosmetic" differences even though there are no functional differences..thoughts?

Try it and find out. I've used several different parts on my 190E from other years and even other models, with no issues. Worse case scenario is that it doesn't work and a fuse blows. Other thank that, I don't see much that can happen as there are safety precautions (like fuses) in place to prevent electrical damage.

Thanks for the response...that's exactly what I did and it works perfectly!...I've been dealing with an intermittent a/c compressor cutting out for probably a couple years now. The compressor rarely worked when the "A/C" button was depressed, but more often than not if I pushed the button above the a/c button, I could force the compressor on. I've tried replacing various other easy to replace components- klima relay, coolant temp sender/switches, full throttle micro switches, etc to no avail. For some reason I dismissed the possibility of it being the pushbutton control unit until I ruled everything else out. Murphy's Law dictated it would be the last option left! Been a long time since I enjoyed a functional a/c system!
