I was after the same answer yesterday. I dont know if i need to replace one, or two pumps ..W124 260E 1989 . Some manuals say one others say two . So its get down and take the cover off and find out for my self.

85 DSEL, according to a reference website models with Chassis Nos. before A368936 have 1 pump. Chassis Nos. after have 2 pumps. It's simple enough to get under the car, remove the black plastic cover in front of the RR tire, and verify the number of fuel pumps.
