Battery Replacement 560 SL

I replaced my battery on my 560 SL with a non-mercedes battery and ever since, the idle has been a little less smooth. Does the battery have anything to do with the way the car idles or performs once its running?

Thanks.

It shouldn't. Why did you have to replace the battery. If the alternator is not working as well as it should it can cause some weird stuff with the runnability of these cars.

Well it shouldn't, unless it wasn't as big as the previous one. The battery should 'soak up' the charge coming from the alternator, and sort of 'even it out'.

When you say less smooth, what do you mean?

Thank you for the reply. when I say less smooth, I mean that instead of idling like a swiss watch, it surges a little bit, off and on...idle goes up and down a bit, rather than completely smooth, as before.
