1989 2.6 190E instrument cluster issues.

The original cluster in our 1989 190E 2.6 started to malfunction after 230,000 miles with a bouncy tach and the temp gauge sticking at 40. I picked up a junkyard 4 cylinder dash from what I believe was a 1991 and I've been having issues with the oil pressure always reading full when the dash has power. We don't really care about warning lights and tun signal indicators as this is now a track only car.

Is the pinout different for different years and engines? Does anyone have experience repining the 15 pin connector to make the different clusters work? I've tried with no success and can't figure out how to make the oil pressure function normally. Detailed diagrams may help.

At this point I may just try and find a dash from the same year and engine.

Hello - I'm unable to attach them, but there are a lot of wiring diagrams of the W201's instrument panel if you do a google search.

You need to PM member James Dean (look up the exact Pelican name on the community list). He's right next door in Ohio and is an expert in instrument cluster repairs.

Did you replace the earth wire on the rear of the unit. Also you will find an earth inside the hole you removed the speedo head from in the dashboard And you hav a fuse in there it looks like a bulb..

I'll have to look up James Dean. The wiring diagrams I am finding tell me the wire colors but not their functions. It seems they may have used different wires for the different years. I've managed to trace leads and determine what wires go to what sensors but the oil pressure signal seems to be more complicated than just a modulated voltage.

What about the ground Optimusprime? I do have the correct ground in the 15 pin connector. Is there another one?
