92 300TE third brake light cover
I probably already know the answer to this, but is there ANY source or any possibility somebody here has an unbroken third brake light cover for a wagon in a parts car or spare? Was loading musical gear yesterday and just as the tail gate was 6" from latching, realized a table leg was directly in line with my third light. It exploded. I managed to create a superglue jigsaw puzzle structure to keep the brake light from blinding me, but need to find another. Don't care about color, I'll paint it black if it doesn't match.

Better than the table leg went through the glass!
Black might be the only color they come in new. See if David Hendy has a good used one for you. Check the parts forum of course. Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon |

Thanks, sixto. I'll check the parts section. Who is Dave and how do I track him down? New I guess dealer-only?
I am going to conduct a $5 experiment. A guy at work has been playing with Kydex thermoformable sheet plastic. I used to do vacuum forming of parts when I worked at an aviation museum 15 years ago. The back of the cover looks really simple, so I'm going to carve a wood mold, put it on a vacuum frame and see if I can pull one. Won't be perfect, but if they are not available, it might be a suitable replacement. |

Those third brake light covers are impossible to find and a royal pain to not break when removing. |

MCallahan, a new cover should be available from your local MB dealer.

I bought a complete 3rd light housing for my 126 last year. The only color they're available in is black now, which is fine by me, looks better than the pinkomino one sitting back there before with tinfoil tape holding it together.
Since the 3rd light is considered a "safety" item and the W124 was built nearly half a decade later than the 126, I'd suspect they still have them available too. Much better than hoping and praying it doesn't shatter when you have to change the bulb out!

Thanks guys, I'll try the dealer. I'm going to experiment with the kydex mold, anyway. Could put tabs and screws in it instead of the stupid snap together design that becomes breakaway when it gets brittle with age.
