W126 300SD Grille emblem. What's this screw?

Hi all.

Bought an aftermarket grille for my 83 300SD. It has this screw where the emblem badge goes. It's helping to hold the center section in place.

Was that just for shipping? If not - what am I supposed to do? the emblem is a push in where that screw is.

Sorry for the bad quality. It had gotten dark while I was wrapping up.

Thanks for looking.

The original round Mercedes emblem that goes there has a threaded bolt attached to it that goes through that hole. The nut you install on the other side helps hold the grille in place.

Hmmm.

It's hard to tell. I had to poke the old one with a screwdriver like a grommet mount. There's so much glue it's hard to tell, but I think I see the beginnings of threading on the stud. I assume it's broken.

All the ones I've seen for sale say they include grommet, but it doesn't take a grommet? Now I'm truly confused.

No Grommet from factory

But there is a Washer on the inside unless you use a "Flanged" nut.

OK. I'm super confused. Every time I search 300SD or W126 I get grommet ones.

I finally found this, which I assume mine used to look like.

It's part number 1268800188. when I search on that part number, I find brass medallions for over $200. the one I have (possibly already aftermarket) appears to be plastic.

Can anyone point me in the right direction for getting an emblem?

Thanks

The stock emblem is metal and is the style you show. I'd imagine it's probably an "NLA" part by now which is why the cost is ridiculous. If it were my car, I'd find one at a junk yard, ask nicely in the "WTB" section of this forum, or be happy with the plastic replacement.

Thanks for the help and thanks for the pointer to a good one!

Having to choose between $200 ones and wrong ones, I was ready to glue mine on and fabricate something for the grille insert.

Thanks again!
