R107 shift knob changing proceedure needed

The Article Removal and Installation of Automatic Trans Shift for the R107s doesn't really address changing the shifter knob. Not sure where he got lost but I really don't want to disassemble half my car to change the shift knob.

Is there a link to JUST changing the shift knob and shaft?

I would think you could lift the shift rubber boot up and use a crows foot wrench to loosen the lock nut.

Then turn until the shaft and old knob are out.

Put the lock nut on the new shaft and thread in.

Tighten the lock nut and install the rubber boot.

NOT a 3 hour job.

Tell me if I am wrong? I still have to do mine.

Requires removing ash tray assembly and the wood panel shift surround. Will have to unplug switches also.
