The shiny silver disc that covers the centre spindle of the fuel/oil pressure etc gauge has dropped off. It appears that it was glued on and the glue has now 'dried up'. The disc is now rolling around the bottom of the gauge getting in the way of the 'economy' needle.
Is there a way of removing only the front of the instrument cluster without having to remove the steering wheel and take out the whole unit? The procedure to remove the actual gauge once the cluster is out is outlined in the chassis manual but I am reluctant to remove the (non airbag)steering wheel. Please, any ideas would be appreciated!!! |
Removal of the steering wheel is a low level repair that you should be able to do in a couple of hours. The cluster can only be accessed through the removal of it. The gauges are then un-screwed from the back of the cluster assy. Then put it all back together...

Is there any way of just removing the front (clear plastic) of the cluster once the whole unit is out?
I started to attempt to remove the speedo to get to the fuel/temp/pressure gauge and quickly found I had removed seven screws and it still wouldn't come out. I am a little worried I won't be able to piece everything back together again once I have removed every single screw. Is there a way of getting to the guage without removing the speedo? No, there is no way to remove the front of the cluster.
I removed all the hex headed screws and yes, all the instruments came out. Be careful when removing the power for the clock. I shorted it with my pliers and blew the fuse. Cleaned up the inside of the cluster and it looks like new! |
