E290TD (W210) VSS

Hello everyone;

I'm in the process to install an aftermarket cruise control unit in an old but good E290TD; i'm doing an aftermarket installation since it has manual gearbox and was not possible to install the stock unit (available only with automatic gearbox..). The electromechanical actator is installed as per mfg instructions and so far it look good, but I still have to finish the electrical istallation, and in particular I need toget some info about the VSS.

Where I can get VSS signal on the W210? so fat I was thinking to split the signal fro one of the phonic wheel (front left so it's close to the actuator unit..) or take the speed signal from the stock radio connector (plug A, pin 1; black-green wire).

Anyway even in case of that I need the type of wave (square or sinusoidal) and the pulse per mile (PPM) (of course PPK, pulse per km is good too ).

Of course the best would be to take the signal that goes to the instrument cluster but I have no idea about wich pin and wich of the two connectors has it.

Thanks in advance for the cooperation.

PS. in the attachment some pictures ofmy installation.

Cheers
Daniele

What year is the car?

The radio connector might have some damping making using it for cruise a problem though I'd give it a try.

The front wheel speed sensor would give a sine wave and should work fine.

The instrument cluster VSS input is sent from the ABS computer over the CAN network so there isn't an actual pulse to pickup.

Hello Sir;

Car is from 1998; so, so
Far my best option is the phonic wheel.

I think it has 50 teeth, so every revolution of the wheel, i will have 50 pulses.

Knowing that and the tyre circumference I should be able to easily determine the pulses per Km,

Every Km the wheel does 490 revolutions, so 490X50= 24500 Pulses Per Km; correct me if i’m wrong.

Thanks again
