So W124 VS W211!
I made the plunge and bought a sweet 2004 E320 wagon and I love driving it, yet it needs tons of stuff! Sitting in the Texas sun a dozen years has badly degraded the windhield cowl seals/gutters and they're full of leaves and crumbling and I find NOBODY carries these parts after '03..Everything is for the W210 series and the body and trim parts seem to stop at the 2003 year, Pelican and everyone else!!
These parts arent expensive but I just ran through a rainstorm and the gages immediately acted up and then calmed down again when they dried out, very likely because the windhshield screens were dumping into the electronics instead of channeling runoff into the gutters..And it seems nobody wants to sell them.. HELP help!! Anyone have leads on parts for this later model..which should just overlap interchangeably with the w211 series in the E350 models..?? for body parts anyway.. I hate to come on Pelican asking for leads to somebody besides Pelican but if they wanted the market they'd source this stuff and offer it..Nothing. When I opened the chat of w124 vs w211 I never thought I couldnt get parts! I feel like a Cuban. |

Oh good, Im overly dependent on search engines and glad to hear it. Needing tons of parts, so Id love to package a collection from one supplier. Valve cover gaskets and sealant and tons of odd bits needed!
TY Hirnbeiss.. Okay edit needed, I saw this part and doubt its correct. Im reading reviews for this part and see it pictured installed on a 210 which has the mono-wiper. The 211 has dual wiper arms. Its the part I looked at and said oh crap, the parts range stops at 2003. And I cant imagine this also fits on the W211 which is a dual wiper system and will work around the wipers of the new model after the design changes. If so wonderful but not likely. Of course I could call and ask somebody who has not physically seen the part or either car in question, the one this part is listed for OR MINE, which is is NOT listed for.. and will ask the VIN..use a reference chart..(do you know the owner of pelican is a mech engineer and suggests we check our PCV valve on the M104 engine when it doesnt have one? (Pelican tech article..PCV function is built into the valve covers, I left a note, maybe its been corrected) Had the same issue with phone sales once, trying to find a part through charts and catalogs when it was a knowledge issue.. I was able to help Pelican sort out a lot of stuff on the W124 such as breather hoses which were mis-marked and happy to help but if this cowl screen is good for the W211 why is it shown for the W210 series only?? And other suppliers show the same, only good for W210 and not fitting the 04 on cars.. These W211's seem to have a lot of quirky stuff difficult to accomodate.. That's odd. Why shouldn't it move as far back as the driver seat?
Rather than mess with the front seat, can you defeat the switch that says the rear seat is flat? Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon |

I know sixto! The MB forums have a chat about this annoying feature which seems programmed into US cars only, not the european ones. As if our lawyers scare them about some crush issue potentially..??
Im searching for sensors and microswitches to defeat the monster and have tried triggering the latch again, maybe putting a placebo bolt into its hold space.. Its a widely frustrating feature! Thanks for the comment..Post if you see any clues! |

So yes, I was able to manipulate the internal rocker in the seatback latch until the computer beeped and released the passenger seat lockout which kept it way forward! I now have a two passenger vehicle (not one) with a great back cargo area for my dog and gear..
Now if I can locate those windshield cowl screens..studying mine Im very sure that the W210 screens designed for a mono-wiper system will clearly not work as the other fellow was telling me.. Its just the rubber lip that is bad so maybe some gasket material and adhesive will do a repair job to the existing part..we will see! I am in rainy Oregon on the coast and we dont need water going the wrong directions! |

You’re right on the part - sorry. It came up in a search for your model though. I think the correct part is 2118301213.

Thanks, Hirnbeiss, for the part number and comment..Its just the rubber lip on the part which contacts the glass that is degraded and crumbling. I am feeling there may be a way to replace just the seal after cleaning out all the crumbled remains and the debris clogging the drain channels and tubing.
The car I found has had dealer maintenance plus a service contract, the costly fixes have been properly done) yet nobody maintained the little stuff and its been used hard although low miles and a great price so I need lots of miscellaneous parts. (engine cover tabs are broken and it rattles..) And for example I discover Mercedes does not sell the door mirror gaskets which also degrade and crumble. A couple E-bay sellers have picked up the ball and are offering these parts, plus instructions to change them out. (no luck with our friend, Pelican) The forum here and MB websites have been invaluable sources and the information steered me clear of options like the often underpriced '06 E350 with potential balance shaft issues and other maintenance nightmares that would ruin a low dollar guy like me..Im so grateful and glad to contribute whatever I can to the efforts and for their understandable limitations, greatly appreciate the good work at Pelican. I truly believe every problem contains its own solution...even as applies to German cars! Thanks all! |
