What is code 17?

I have 1992 400e with 97,000 miles. It has vibration problem at stops while, it is idling. My check engine light comes on about once a day usually, right after I turned off the car and turn it back on. It then disappears after 10 secs and don't see it until the next day. I checked for codes and got 17 flashes. So, I am to assume a code 17
What is a code 17?

Code 17 is for a data exchange problem between the computers.
A likely possiblity is a charging system OR battery problem.

Thanks MB Doc for the info. I checked the battery while idling. Checekd the battery while lights, a/c, and radio on. It gives 14.31volts. It seems okay and turns off at 12.70 volts. It looks okay except one thing.

I checked the codes again and now it is giving me codes 2 and 15 as, well as code 17. It did not show up last night or the past week for that matter just, code 17.

I will have to buy the MB Tech manual on disc I guess. Please tell me what these codes are for code 2 and 15.
