I have a 80 300td with delco compressor.I decided to change over to the type 134 freon.I installed more than enough to make the pressure switch on the drier engage the compressor clutch.It would not.I pulled the wires on the pressure switch and connected them,this should have made the clutch engage It did not.I went to the connections on the clutch put current to the connection,and the clutch worked fine.Somewhere between the pressure switch and the compressor clutch,something is stopping the current flow.I have the service book,but am not worth a darn at understanding it.Please help.

MR - was it working prior to the conversion?
I'm not sure if yours is the ACC type like in my '85 model but I ended up replacing the pushbutton control unit to get power through that circuit. On the '85 the power is supplied from the PBC unit through the evap temp switch (located on the a/c system "ducting" behind the glove box) and then on to the switch at the dryer. Prior to replacing my pushbutton unit I ran a fused 12 volt power switch to this circuit starting at the evap temp switch. When I wanted the compressor running I would throw this switch - worked fine until I replaced the PBC unit.

Jim it worked last year.But the freon slowly leaked out,and I left it alone until this week.Your suggestion to run a switched hot wire to the compressor sounds like a winner.Thanks Michael.
