Heater Core area access

Does anyone have specific instructions on how to get to the heater core/heater box area of a 107? I've searched archives, but couldn't find anything specific beyond "you have to take out the whole dash" etc, and I need step by steps from someone who's done it. The end result is to get the dead mouse out of there that is totally ruinging the driving experience of this car. I can't affoord to pay a shop to do it, and I only know how to take out the ashtray and the two screws behind there - don't know how to take off the gearshift know to take out the center console - that kind of stuff. Come on, mercedesshop, help a poor guy out!

I would not advise doing this job unless you are a master DIYer. I would advise most techs not to do this job unless they planned on doing others as the pitfalls outweigh the advantages even in money. Cracked dashes, cracked windshields, vacuum problems, electrical problems, they can all be handled. I know because my first job back after my first MB school in 1974 was to reinstall the dash that the just quitting senior tech had scattered about his stall.

I would advise the simple task of pulling the blower motor. It is located above the evaporator and is easily accessable for the engine compartment. Its possible that yoo might get far enough in that way. Pulling the motor allows access to the top of the evap. No easy access to either side of the heater core.

And it wasn't as hard on the ol back as it was back then either was it Steve? :)
I would rather pull an engine than a dash just because of the aggravating access :). It was alot easier on my back back then :)

My laying on car floor days are over. It was never one of my favorites due to my size (bg).

How big of a job is replacing my heater core going to be on my 240D with manual everything?

OK, OK!

Allright, I get the message. I've been in to the blower area, but I didn't see any access to the heater core through that way. I was able to verify the drains weren't plugged and i sprayed some lysol in there, but not much beyond that. I think you've scared me enough, though.
