W126 HVAC Blower Motor R&R
1990 300SEL
I've gone back in the threads, but couldn't find any help. The heat has been running constantly in this northern WI cold, and the blower motor squeal is driving me nuts. I assume the grease on the shaft is dried up. I'd prefer getting the replacement motor for $90 rather than the entire unit for $250. Does anyone know how to get the fan cage off the shaft in one piece, and the R&R done? Is there a special type of wheel puller, or rigged up tool you can recommend? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks!! |

outofspec, review the Blower Motor Links Page under the DIY Links by Parts Category section. There should be some information there that will help you swap the fan cage to the replacement blower motor shaft.

Thanks Fred! I forgot about the DIY section.
Found one post in the section from 2007 regarding fan removal from the shaft. Talked about soaking in P B Blaster, bracing the fan cage with wooden blocks, and useing a hammer and punch to drive out shaft. I’ll give it a try, but the OP in the thread was having trouble and never reported success. Looks like the only option. Thanks again Fred. |

Did you have any luck with this?
My W126 (1988) has been setting quite a bit lately, but I have been starting it and letting it run for about 10-15 minutes per week and moving it about the driveway, but yesterday I turned on the HVAC and the blower has started squeaking. It does not squeak at first, but after a few seconds, it will start to squeal and sounds like it slows down. Is there a repair procedure by lubing something, or does something have to be replaced? Thanks. |

You should heat up the fins in boiling hot water or with a heat gun then press them off. Do the same when you put them on again. Some say ts good to mark the alignment and keep the weights on the fan blades. I did not do those steps. It still works very well, no issue at all. The Bosch motor can be had for under $70.
