Distrust of Dash checking Oil Level
I have a 2003 MB E320 without a dipstick.
the dash check says "Oil Level is OK" How often are they wrong? Without changing the oil and measuring the old oil, is there another way to see the level? |
You can get a workshop engine oil dipstick. ( it is different than the workshop trans stick ).
There was a thread a while back where the poster was battling ounces of oil level they were reading on the dash. Motor oil expands when hot like trans fluid and oil dripping from the cylinder heads leads to slightly varying levels not normally seen when checking with a regular stick. |
I've only ever seem them fail where they indicate the level is low when in fact it is not.

Roger the shop dipstick. They never lie.
