W126 pulls to right, not alignment problem
My 1990 560sel is pulling to the right. A front-end alignment didn't solve the problem. The inside of the right front tire is showing bad wear. All four tires match and have 60% tread remaining. It's not that noticeable until I get it up to 60+ mph then a noticeable vibration begins. If it's not an alignment problem, what else should I be looking for? (and how much will THAT cost?!) Thanks.

Try rotating the tires from to rear if you haven't done so allready.
Perhaps you have a pulled belt on one of the front tires causing it to pull to the right......or here's a better idea, replace the tire with bad inside wear with your spare & see what happens. Good luck, Clay |
For diagnostic purposes switch the tires side to side in the front. If the car goes to the left you have found the problem (one or both of the front tires.
Rotating front to rear, probably will solve the problem, but I have seen many cars that aquire the same basic problems on the rear and bt doing the switch you are left still in the dark if you still have the pull. Going side to side leaves tires from the equation. Nine of ten cars brought to me for alignment due to a pulling condition are due to the tires. Half of the tire problems come from alignment and or the remaining problem of POS tires. |
....suggest having a qualified tech- - comprehensively review the chassis and suspension for 'worn' or 'excessive play' conditions- - often times older MBs need (upper/lower) control arm bushings (or the like)
...also at this time, you may wish to review the front calipers to ensure none are sticking/leaking hope this helps -fad PS- do check the easy stuff like the tire swapping as well |
Yesterday I rotated the front tires at your suggestion. (That's what I like about this forum...lots of help when you need it!) But...the car still pulls to the right. So now, I've made an appointment for it it go into the shop for a chassis and suspension review. Naturally, the simple and inexpensive didn't work. <sigh>
