Hi,
I have an 88 300TE. Sunroof opens and closese but moves in a manner suggesting that it is overcoming abnormally high levels of friction. During summer, it has also gotten stuck in a half open position only closed when the external temperature has fallen significantly. When it became stuck, nothing would open it, not using the manual crank nor tugging.
Any ideas :)
Thanks in advance

I would clean the rails really well and lube them with some white lithium grease or such product. (Use Sparingly) Then pray that is all that is wrong for these things are for the most part complex units if you don't deal with them daily.

Our 87 300D Turbo had the same sluggish sunroof problem. After replacing the side lift rails (both sides) replacing the cable to the motor in the trunk and then taking it back a fourth time, the mechanic discovered the guide tubes for the cable had opened up (like a split lengthwise. The cable was getting caught in the open part of the tube

The repair includes removing the rear window, so we have not yet had this fixed. I really miss my sunroof, though.
