16V Harmonic Balancer

Hi,
Are the harmonic balancers on the 16V's "generic" or are they balanced to the specific engine?. Can I buy a new harmonic balancer and install it or does it have to be rebalanced with the whole engine? My car has an engine vibration that I can't seem to track down. It has new engine and trans mounts, even compression, good OVP etc.
Thanks,
Steif1

Most newer MB engines are "EXTERNAL" balanced. That means that flywheel OR front balancer can be replaced without any need for the engine to be completely rebalanced.
Look at the balancer close as sometimes the "rubber" will seperate.

I still have the vibration on my 16V. Will a bad crankshaft damper/ harmonic balancer cause an engine to vibrate?
