Transmission the same on M104 as M103?

I have a 93 sedan parts car with an M104. Wondering if the transmission will swap out with the ill one in my 92 300TE wagon with an M103? If that will work, I can keep the car om the road and rebuild the original trans in my spare time.

Additionally, any good Mercedes transmission rebuilders in the Southeast US? (Atlanta 300 mile radius)

I don't trust rebuilders, only sun valley in California.Junk yard trans, would probably have leaky seals.

Agreed on both accounts. Unless somebody can reccomend a good rebuilder, I'll probably buy the parts and kit and build it myself. Haven't built an auto trans in 30 years, but I ain't skeert, just need to keep the car running. The parts car transmission is essentially free, as I have already picked enough pieces off the car to more than pay for it, but I bought the car not running (was in an estate sale, guy bought a house and the car was with it, but no keys). If it looks good when I get it out and get the pan and filter off, I'll take a chance and put it and the radiator in.

Yes, the transmission will bolt up and work.

Thanks! I'm going to give it a shot, then. It may not be identical, but if it will run me around for a couple of months, it would help tremendously.

I did run both cars through a VIN decoder and the TE trans is

722358 03 599417

E trans is

722369 03 350934

No idea exactly what those designations mean.

The 722.3 and M103/M104 stuff plays nicely. I've been doing a lot of research on this for project I am doing and as soon as you're trying to swap to a later trans the controls become a project of their own. So not a big issue for a 124 unless you have a 5 speed auto car.

FYI, I installed a 722.3xx in my 1993 300e which has an M104. The transmission I picked up was a low mileage one from what turned out to be an e280 which has the 2.8L version of the M104. I had to swap out the tail housing of the transmission to install the speedometer drive, but other than that it bolted in place fine and I've been driving it for the last six months without any issues.

Thanks guys, got a quote from an old friend who has a Mercedes shop. $3900 to drive off with a rebuilt trans. Uh.... no. Looks like I'll pull the 722.369 out of the parts car and see where I stand. If it works, I'll probably end up building my trans on my time, as I don't trust ANYBODY in this area.
