w124 722.4 transmission problem

Hello, yesterday when i was driving to work all of my cars forward gears disappeared, i read that it's probably the b2 piston fault. I will try to take the B2 piston ou this weekend, my question is, if it's not broken then can i just change seals on the piston or should i just change the whole thing. The seal costs about 8euros and the piston is 200 so i'd be happy if wouldn't have to spend alot of money on fixing it.

i got the B2 piston out, it doesn't look broken, can a worn seal cause this or what else could cause this problem ?

Drop the pan and see if you have metal and/or lining in there. This is kind of like saying, "My engine doesn't run, what's wrong?" There are many different things that could have gone awry.... pump, drum seals, linings stripped, converter, etc... If it has lining (looks sort of like paper gasket material) or shards of metal in tge pan, it's rebuild time.

Yes, the black seal gets hard and brittle, and the waves on the B2 piston shaft do it too..

Note the direction of the dog bone. It needs to go in the same way...
