Would an in dash CD player warp CDs in a 300E ? The question is not a silly as it might seem at first ! I have a Bluapunkt tape unit installed in my 88 300TE. When a tape is left in the unit and I have been driving a while, the tape can emerge quite warm. I believe it accurate to reason that the heat is the result of the unit being close to the engine and less so from the tape player itself. I am wondering the same heat would not cause CDs to warp if I installed an in-dash unit ? Anybody have any ideas, experience/

I wouldn't worry about installing an in-dash CD player. The toasted tapes are likely the result of a hot tape-drive mechanism (can be high friction units). I use a Sony head unit in my 300E with no trouble under any driving conditions/ ambient temperatures.

Same as Nick but with a Pioneer Super-Tuner CD for 3 years with no trouble.

The heat that you are referring to is caused from the actual amplifier in the unit, therefore causing the cds or tapes to become warm. I have an alpine unit in my 300E and it causes the cds to heat up, but not at all to the point of melting. Hope this helps.

would have to echo former responses, and add suggestions. The only cars that I have heard of where the car itself is responsible for heating the head unit to any degree is a few Chevy products, caused by heater ducts running to close. If heat is a worry, you could go with external amplifiers. This should make any head unit last longer, due to lesser heat cycling.
