212 fan in 1989 560SL

Markings on 212 switch are 105 and 115. The fan does in fact come on at 115 degrees and goes off at 105 degrees. Puzzled as to why it is called a 212 switch. Car seems to be running hot while sitting in traffic, but no hotter than the 115 when the aux fan comes on. Is this normal?
