W124 300E transmission kickdown solenoid removal

The car is an 88 300E with a 722.358 transmission, and I need to remove the electrical kickdown solenoid at the rear of the transmission to replace it. Do I need to drain the transmission fluid in order to do that?
Thanks.

You'll lose about a quart of fluid. If you jack up the rear of the vehicle, I just unscrewed it and let the smaller amount drain there. Easier than draining the entire pan.
