Unhappy Help! 560 SEL rear door panel

My left rear window regulator failed. Everything seems straigthforward in the door panel removel, but I can't get the frame hiding the top arm rest screws to pop out, and I don't want to hurt the burl. The MB w126 manual on the CD is useless, sorry to say, because it shows an older version of the door latch trim. Does anybody know how it's clipped in? Also this frame rests OVER the rear cup of the door latch, so removing this cup to reveal a screw behind the latch makes no sense....

This is a 1989 560 SEL.

Lightbulb

You should be able to pull the interior door handle (chrome) back to reveal a black plastic cover the hides the small phillips screw. Once you remove that you should be able to expose the larger phillips screw that holds the armrest in place.

Thanks. I got it out. What threw me off was the rear cup behind the door handle.

Angry What a pain!...

So I got to the problem - the little window slider is busted. Great!, I figured, looks like a cheap part! Went and got one (yup, it's cheap), then noticed it had a rivit at the end.

So now I got to undo the whole aparatus and get it out of the door, drill out the old rivit, and hammer the new one in place. I realize one fellow forum member used a screw instead of the rivit - but just to get the old rivit out I need to yank the whole thing out.

What a pain!!!

updated process

Rear window guy,

I just did this on an '87 SDL, same door in fact. I had to take the window regulator out, to get it in a spot to hammer the rivet back in place. The CD recommends taking the whole window out. I was able to loosen the track that holds the back of the window in place, move it a bit and get the window regulator out. I had to disconnect the wires to the motor at a junction box in the top middle of the door as well. It did come out and go in then. I was able to replace the little plastic part and get it all back in. Be sure to check the motion of the window in the track (not too tight, or too loose to get crooked). Still working ( said with fingers crossed).

Thumbs up CSchmidt - yup!

Same thing I did. Hope I banged that rivet solidly enough. No need to take the window out - in the later manual it tells you just to loosen the track, and keep the window wedged in the up position. It worked for me.

Regreased the armature ("regulator") teeth while I had it out...

You need to take that armature out out for two reasons - to drill out the old rivet, and to bang in the new one.

Used the marks on the paint to reallign the bolts and screws when I reinstalled, and the window now works and has exactly the same play as the one on the passanger side...
