'02 E320 WAGON FUEL SYS REHAB NOW NO START
'02 E320 Wagon (W210). Approx 150,000 miles. Very well maintained. A few warts courtesy of the PO spring up every now and then.....like this one
The big metal line fuel line in the back of the car sprung a leak. Decided to do a fuel system rehab and replaced all the hoses, the fuel pump, and fuel filter. Took the car off the rack, turned the key, the display lights up, but nothing. No crank, no noises. Left it sit over night with one of the battery cables unhooked. Thought it might reset itself. Turned the key again this morning, display lights up, but no crank. Did we miss some type of reset on the fuel system upon replacing the various parts? Parts Info. All hoses were OEM. Fuel pump is a Bosch made in Poland and the fuel filter is a Mahle, #KL82, made in Germany. I will have to re-check the fuel pump part number as I wrote down one number and the invoice has another number. Fuel pump box is at the shop.

hope you checked power at the starter terminal 50 at the starter itself and also at the power junction in the K40 relay.
wont be the first to have that relay go on vacation at the worst time. if the key is able to turn in the ignition all the way to start and you also see the gear indicator show the correct gear position on the dash cluster - you are assured that the ECM is ready to fire the engine, but the starter is not getting any signal to do it or it has given up the ghost.

Thanks Zul.
So you're saying unrelated to the work we did. One of those parts possibly just decided to take a dump?

no start, nothing, not even a click. check the big purple wire in the K40 relay box and found no signal on it on crank (it was a december), so I put a hair dryer aimed at the unit - and it started after 20 seconds of some heating. replaced that unit later on that week once fedex dropped it off.

Interesting. Sounds like you were struck by Murphy's Law.
I won't have a chance to get to the car till Thursday, but I will report back. Thanks.

My 02 sedan sat for a couple of weeks and then wouldn’t start. No issues before - started every time. After electrical troubleshooting it turned out that the starter / solenoid was bad. Actually the connection between the starter / solenoid was a soldered connection and it developed a crack. So both were working, but the starter was not getting power. I replaced with a spare from my parts car. I doubt that is your problem, but testing each component is fairly straightforward to identify if you’re getting power to the parts.

Thanks brooktre for the comment. What you described is exactly the scenario for my '02 wagon. It sat for a couple of weeks before we did the repair. I think you guys have pointed me in the right direction.
