On my SD and also on my Land Rover I can insert the key and get the steering wheel to unlock by moving the steering wheel to the right and left several times. Maybe yours works that way too? Kinda jimmy it back and forth several times and you can feel it unlock.

Thanks! But when the key is turned the steering wheel is completely free to turn any direction however much I want.
