how can i get rid of that annoying buzzer when i put the key in my ignition
 

ive traced the buzz down to a buzzer located behind the insturment cluster of my 1994 e320.. the only thing is there are lots of wires going into it.. if i simply unplug it will i cause a bunch of other problems..and if so.. how can i simply get rid of that annoying sound???? :confused:

you could disconnect the door switch, but your interior dome wont light up then either.

Perhaps you can figure out which ground wire on it there are 2 or 3 on the little door pin switch, goes to the buzzer if it does. Then just diconnect that wire, but leave the others.

Might be something to look at.

If you mean when you have your door open when you are working on the inside of the car or washing it, well take the key and pull it out and put it back in real fast and it will stop making noise.

the buzzer should be behind the cluater. pull the gauge cluster, and get the car to make th buzz. feel around at the little boxes with wires going into them attached inside the dash area behind where the cluster was. when you find the buzzing one, I would think it would be easy to disconnect.

If you are talking when you turn the key, and the doors are closed, that buzzer, not sure. but the door open and key in the on position, the door pin is what activates it. and I am sure one of the wires tot he door pin switch is wired to turn ont he buzzer.

If its anything like my 190e, the buzzer box does everything involved with the door switches; lights, buzzers, seat belt warning, and some other stuff. What I did was take the box out, open it, and disable the the actual anoying noise makeing device.

BTW mine is located behind a panel under the hood release latch.

As JimA notes, the box does several functions other than just buzz at you. You can't just unplug it - lot's of stuff will stop working. To quiet the buzzer, you need to pull the box, disassemble it, render the buzzer inoperative, reassemble, and reinstall.

As an alternative, you could just wait a few years. The buzzers always fail with age. My '87 124 hasn't made a peep in years.

If anyone wants to trade a noisy buzzer box for a silent one, I'll offer mine up for trade. (My wife leaves the lights on all the time - I *need* a buzzer.)

thanks for the replys. ill take the little thing apart and break its leg!.. i had a feeling there were quite a few circuits running thru it because of the amount of wires going into it and also because when i unplugged it all the doors would turn on the dome light but the drivers door.. thanks again>:)

I have virtually the same car as you, so here's my advice:

1. When you put the key in the ignition, it doesn't buzz. You have to turn the key like you're going to start the car to make it buzz. To prevent this, fasten your seat belt before turning the key. It will never buzz.

2. If you shut your car off, and open the door, the car will buzz. Simply take out the key, and re-insert it, and it won't buzz.

I felt the need to comment that this is indeed the most annoying key in ignition, seatbelts not latched buzz I have ever encountered on any car I have ever owned.

I would like to make the same 'repair', though I do appreciate the "your lights are on, stupid" warning very much.

Perhaps there is a way to just disable the switch on the ignition cylinder end of this? Sounds like it may be easier than messing with that box, though I am not sure if this switch is integrated with the security system in any way.

On the seatbelt end, I would wonder if the airbags use the same switch to make 'deployment decisions'. Probably not on my 1986 model, but by 1994 this may have evolved.

If anyone knows, that would be great. Those wiring diagrams are never fun to trace...

If the buzzer only goes off when your seatbelt isnt fastened .. maybe there is some way to bypass the seatbelt wiring to make it think that it is fastened all the time>> this way the lights are on buzzer would still work, as i agree that the lights are on buzzer is a nice thing to have> :eek:

my 500E has the same buzzer and I thought I would be smart and clip the cable that runs through the seat belt harness. If the seat belt is fastenend, the buzzer does not buzz, easy, bypass the switch ! Wrong ! After cutting it, I found 4 cables running through the harness and ended up with a SRS light full on. Had to carefully solder the connections and order a new seat belt buckle. Stange thing is though after this bit of learning, the buzzer has stopped forever, can't think why but I shall now leave it alone . . .

That damn buzzer is highly annoying to me. I want to yank it out and stomp om it. Thanks for the seatbelt tip suginami!! Anybody sell any aftermarket "buzzers" out there?? How about one that converts the buzzer into a sexy female voice that whispers to you when you get into your car in the morning or leaving at night. I'd pay $100 for one of those.
