Yeah buddy, those puppies are tight! Ya know, I really didn't have a 'good look' at them (as I should have) before I removed the bolt/nut and set the carrier free from the LCA, and I took a map gas torch to it and the rubber was starting to burn of course. I THEN started looking at the bushing and I'm not 100% sure I actually needed to be replacing them! For whatever reason, I had ordered them along with all the control arms so I guess I'll carry on with putting them in. I'm going to have to admit, I'm stumped trying to figure out what this "blue wrench" is you're referring to! Thanks for clearing that up for me Dale

Thanks! It spent much of its life in the San Antonio TX area before I got it for years ago so it is still pretty dang solid and rust free. I try to get any road salts off it as soon as the roads dry up after we've had a snow event. This year, so far, it's actually not been driven in snow as it is up on jack stands Dale

Got the passenger side bushing out with the homemade tool this afternoon but wasn't able to get the new one started. I'm going to try to find an over-the-counter thick (~1/4") piece of steel or washer of appropriate size to use on the opposite end of bushing entrance (the forward facing side of carrier). It will 'pull' the bushing in as the other piece 'pushes' it into place.
As has been explained by forum member Jeremy5848, the makeshift 'receiver' does not exactly 'fit' very well as there is an 'arm' on the wheel carrier that is in the way and some fabrication is necessary in order to get it to do its job. I tried cutting a notch in it to no avail. So, I've got an idea or two but no time at the moment! Will update when I've got something to share Dale

:: UPDATE ::
Well it's all back together as of yesterday afternoon. I've driven it and WOW what a difference! It *feels* so much 'tighter' and there's no metal on metal sounds when pulling into or out of my driveway (at the curb). I did not get to the diff bushings but I've got them ready to go when I've got some down time. Thanks to forum member 'Paul_Spr....n' for the bushing tool that I rented from him. Made that job very easy. Thanks to each of you who offered useful info in this thread, you guys are a true asset for anyone driving these great old cars and are DIY'ers Dale
