2000 c230 Kompressor pulsates while slowing down

I'm not sure really how else to explain it. if your cruising at about 35 or so in lets say 4th gear (5 spd auto) and let off the throttle to slow down the car feels like (if it where a manual) like the clutch is ever so slightly being depressed the released over and over. its very faint but just enough to know something isn't right. it shifts through the gears just fine. manual upshifts and downshifts work properly as well. I have no clue what it could be? torque converter issue?

123K miles

Are there any other symptoms? Does it vibrate at idle? Does it "shift hard" when you go into drive or reverse?
