Sorry for posting the same image here again, but I am trying to determine whether I can drop in images from my external hosting service.

I'll try tomorrow. Technology is not being my friend.

Appreciate the comment. Lots of backbreaking work leaning over the fenders and bumper. Trying to get motivated to do the write-up on the Front Seal (and associated stuff!). I have about 25 images to accompany it. Motivation ... or lack there-of!

Sometimes elevating the car for under hood work helps.

Lots of variables. No matter how you slice it, when you're 65 years old, 800mg Motrin will be required!

When I was a (young) aircraft mechanic certain jobs were just easier if you could position the scaffolding so you could lie down - I guess a convenient "table bed" would be nice if you have the space. You could even stick it on lockable castors to move it about...

...in Holland in the last few years they've been selling mini lifts that raise the car off the wheels by about 3 foot may be - the idea is to be able to clean and detail the lower parts at a more convenient ergonomic height. Mighty Car Mods on youtube use one quite a bit cos they haven't got a 4 post lift.

97 SL320 & Stretch,

Some of those 'Quick Jack' mini lifts are available in the States. I think they lift about 50 cm, or so, and run on standard US 120 VAC, or with a 12 VDC option. I'd still be on my back on a creeper. A fried of mine had a 4 post lift. He only had a 3 m ceiling, but would lift the car so he could sit on a rolling stool, and have decent arm access. A better idea than 'on the back'.

I only have a 2 car garage. With work benches on 2 sides, 60 gallon compressor, 2 large tool cabinets, shelves, house water purification/softener tanks, and a Jeep WJ, there is not enough 'elbow room' for a lift for the Coupe. If I really need a lift, I have a local shop that I can use for free, but not for extended work. If I pay the owner for a 'significant' repair job, he has no problem letting me be 'hands-on' to my hearts desire, and work side-by-side with their Tech. I had to use that option for my recent Ring Gear replacement. On the other hand, last year I dropped my complete exhaust system and Drive Shaft to replace the Pinion Seal and Trans Output Shaft Seal .... All on my back in the garage.

The current Front Shaft Seal was do-able from a combination of 'above' and 'beneath' access. Mostly above. I'm inclined to call it a success. However, a 4 post lift with a 15 foot ceiling, a shower, a WC, and a 'fridge', in a heated garage ..... would have been heaven!

I finally got around to writing up my M110 Crankshaft Seal R&R. To those that replied to my questions, thanks for all the tips! Here is the link: DIY: M110 Crankshaft Seal R&R
