1998 W201 190e 2.6

Hey guys I've been glazing over the usual car ads just to see whats out there and I came across a nice little 190e 2.6. I'm not a pro with the W201s, but this car caught my eye and after a brief dig I'm confused on what it is.

The ad says its a '98.
A pic of the dealer tag on it says 98'.
A pic of the badging shows its a 190e 2.6
From what I can gather, these don't exist?

It clearly looks like a W201 to me, but I can't find anything saying they made these cars in 98'. By then it was the W202. It actually looks like a really nice car. Just figured I'd share and ask about it being a 98' W201.

Cheers

It is a '92 or '93. Probably '93 and somebody mistook the three for an eight along the way and that's what's on their documentation for the car.

The W201 was for sold in the USA from '84 to '93 model years and was replaced by the "C-class" W202 for '94.

The 2.6L six-cylinder model, 190E 2.6, was available in the USA from '87 to '93. Prior to '87 all were 2.3L four-cylinders, and I think sometime late in the W201 production run the 2.3L four-cylinder model was deleted from the USA catalog, so only the 2.6L six-cylinder was sold in the USA.

The car looks decent for the mileage, but photos can be deceiving. The only obvious thing I see is the radio antenna is askew. I rarely see W201s anymore, and when I do they are usually pretty thrashed.

The lower body plastic cladding as shown in the photos was '89 to '93.

2.3L was discontinued in 1988 and reintroduced for '91-93.

The car in link has painted mirror covers and the late steering wheel, both of which only available '92-93. It will also have first gear start if the trans hasn't been tampered with.

Ah ok cool. Thanks for the clarification.

Yeah I had read that they stopped making W201s in that year too but I was deceived by the photos.

I wouldn’t mind the car for the engine, so long as it was taken care of.

I’m not really ready for another car to add to my addic-*cough*- collection, but if I was I’d look into this one.

If it were a manual I’d definitely check it out though.
