All in one jack/stand
I am getting ready to replace rotors/pads on the GLK and I was thinking of using one of these.
https://www.amazon.com/Alltrade-640912-Black-All-Bottle/dp/B003ULZGFU/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1550039977&sr=8-3&keywords=all+in+one+jack I have a hydraulic jack but no place to put a stand under the car. I hate the idea of not having a stand. Has anyone used one of these? As an alternative, is there a safe place to jack up the car other than the the jack points on the side? The I could use the jack point for the stand. Thanks

David, I would hesitate to use the all-in-one jack displayed in the link. It appears to me that it would damage the area adjacent to the lift pad, possibly penetrating the floor. Do a search under "Quick Jack". I bought one 18 months ago … it's expensive, but works as advertised. I purchased the BL-7000EXT.

That particular jack seems to have problems with seals and leaks fluid, leaving the car stuck in the air in some cases.

The underside of the GLK has full body panels so I cannot get to any cross member until I jack it up.
Can I jack up using a point on the lower control arm from the front suspension like where it attaches to the frame?

Big Brother is watching.
About two days ago I clicked on your link and looked at that jack. Since then every time I look at AOL news, that silly jack appears at the right in an ad. Not happy that my every move is being monitored. |

How low is a GLK? I know a handful of MBers who are happy with this jack - https://www.harborfreight.com/3-ton-long-reach-low-profile-steel-heavy-duty-floor-jack-with-rapid-pump-64241.html . The basic 20% off coupon isn’t valid for floor jacks but it goes down to $160 from time to time.
I don’t know what a GLK is like but I lift my 210s with a floor jack by the LCA under the spring with a rubber pad for friction since it’s a slick surface. Do the encapsulation panels cover the crossmember? There’s usually enough exposed or even a snubber just for lifting. x2 on big brother. I looked up arrow of light kits for a Cub Scout bridging ceremony last year and now every ad on Chrome is about arrows of light. I’d better limit Valentine’s Day browsing Sixto 98 E320s sedan and wagon 02 C320 wagon |

Jacking up the rear by the differential works. On the front, you want to find a flat spot along the rail, which shouldn’t be a problem. If you try to jack from the control arm, you would need to find a spot along the inner fulcrum shaft. Otherwise, the angle of the arm will change as the spring is compressed and the jack can slip. I use a hockey puck as a jack pad.
