95 e320

Anyone have a part number for the Mercedes crank tool or have used a universal flywheel lock tool to remove the crank pulley bolt? Any ideas appreciated. But I’m not going to use the starter method with the engine torn apart. I need to change the timing chain and guides

It requires the ring gear in place as does going through the starter hole.

How do you set proper torque with an impact wrench?

He asked how to remove it. I told him.

You can hold the flywheel with a piece of wood to get her to torque up. Add some blue loctite and you will Never, Ever have a problem. I've lost count of the harmonic bolts I've done over the last 15 plus years. No locking tool, No problem

I don’t have the head on.. would the impact wrench produce enough torque to zip off the bolt without the head?

As Jono said, with an impact wrench, minimal retention of the pulley/damper will allow the torque wrench to remove the bolt.

I always jammed something thru flywheel plate to hold crank still,or used vise grips

I just bought that impact from harbor freight( stubby earthquake) just yesterday , not happy that after I opened the box its been found to have been used ill keep it anyways a couple scratches , somebody probably didn't want to buy it , used it once , well see , my buddy at work has let me use his for the last year , it works awesome , he worked at acura and says it takes crank bolts right off, ived used it on suspension bolts

Tried this didn’t work. Not enough juice. I got the flywheel lock tool I’ll give it a try with the long ass breaker bar

How high does your compressor go?


Not to say I officially encourage this, but you can hold the pressure switch closed and typically run them up a Lot higher. Amazing what another 40-50 psi will do for you. Make sure you have a fresh few drops of oil in the gun as well ..helps!

10 gal Harbor freight compressor.. sopposely 5.8 cfm at 90psi. Tops out at 125psi. I did bump it up to 100psi just to see if I could tap it harder but the nut wasn’t flinching

Oh...well, idk if that would ever really have enough ass ...

I'll run the compressor up to 185-200 psi when I have a stubborn nut/bolt what have you. We run at 150-160 normally. I'd wager that double your air pressure would likely do the trick.

I found the harbor freight 1000 lb/ft electric impact will remove the most stubborn of fasteners if you have the space to use it.
