124 Trunk lid stop replacement
I spent $78 - Genuine MB parts -- to replace the trunk lid stops on the old 124. (did the rubber gasket seal today also) Soon enough these parts will be like hens teeth to find - like others. Thought I'd post a picture. No real comment on the job - not a troublesome thing to change and maybe not the greatest use of funds - but just one more step towards the nirvana of a restored no-spark beast. The comment is about how MB engineers decided to make this into a fairly complex thing. Talk about something being engineered...or well engineered or over engineered. Not sure which applies here.

I've been debating doing this. My stops look like your old ones, but the trunk closes fine so I'm not sure why I should bother. Do the new ones really make a difference?

I plastidipped mine a few years ago. Waay cheaper than buying new ones. I think I paid $9 for the plastidip. The coating is holding up well.

I replaced mine a couple of years ago. When it rained, water was getting into the trunk via the cracked rubber around those stops. Replacing them stopped the water ingress.

Mine are all dry rotted and cracking too on my ‘87 300D. I went to the junk yard to see if I could find a few but all the ones I saw were the same condition more or less.
