Check engine electronics

I have a 1997 mercedes e320 with this message HELP

A OBD2 scanner can be plugged in under the dash, just above the accelerator pedal to pull codes from the engine. This is the only way to see what is going on.

Other systems need to be tested at the 38 pin under hood connector.

Well did you check the engine electronics? Are they still there?
