Pull the headrest all the way up to the stop, feel for a button or soft spot on the back side of the seat just below where the foam bulge meets the back panel along the left headrest post, push the button as you lift off the headrest.

On the back of the seats you will find a button under the backing material. You will have to feel for it. It will be a small bump. It will be inline with the 2 rods that go into the seatback. Follow them down and you will find the bump on one rod only, the left rod. Press and hold this bump as you pull up on the headrest. that button presses a U key out of the way of the bottom flange of the headrest rod. The button is located on the left side rod only( as facing towards the front of the car). It is just under the front material as it comes over the top of the seatback and terminates. Feel around for it you will find it. OR remove the 2 screws from the seat back located at the bottom of the seat and pull down on the seatback to remove it. Then you can see everything and you will be able to locate the blue buttons.

There are a couple of screws along the bottom edge of the front seat back panel. Remove these screws and pull down the back panel. You'll see what you have to press to release the headrest.

While the back panel is out, tighten the net pocket ends so it doesn't sag.

Man, this forum saved me again. I just had to remove the headrest on my '81 300SD; has never been even raised in 38 years. No idea how to get it out. This old thread saved the day.

Thanks guys.
