DIY bushing press? Any adapter kits out there? Ideas?
Need to press in a new bushing on the lower control arm on my 2008 E350 4matic but it’s the “strut bushing” and MB doesn’t have a tool for this.
The bushing is 50.9mm OD, and very thin walled so a socket might damage it. Does anyone make a tool kit full of various press adapters that might work for me? What other options do I have here to make up an adapter? The issue is making sure the middle is recessed in so that it doesn’t stress the inner rubber piece that protrudes. I thought about a socket, but I feel like due to the thin walls it might just crush the outer shell. Any thoughts? |
I rented a screw type from advance auto,or take part to a shop with a press

Was hoping to own an adapter kit I that has various sizes including approx 50mm for future uses but all I can find is adapters for bearings which are flat and obviously won’t work since it’ll stretch the rubber |
solid bar stock?

Or you can use dry ice on the bushing and heat up the arm boss to put it in. |
Just replace the arm.
