M110 Cylinder head weld

Hi there --

No.1 cylinder has a welded repair in the dome close to the spark plug on the intake side. It's maybe lost 1CC of displacement. This is an 85 casting with new valves, guides seals and springs. The shop I got it from -- (metric motors, LA) will take it back. Should I be concerned about the repair?

Metric Motors has a good reputation. You can ask to have the head magnafluxed to check to insure that the weld repaired the crack properly. The magnafluxing should be done at their expense.

Thanks for your help.In principle, then, a weld in the head is OK? Should I expect to see higher compression in that cylinder?

Did you measure actual combustion chamber volume?

Magnafluxing is a magnetic particle inspection process for ferrous metals.
The cylinder head in question is aluminum; the inspection process for non-ferrous metals is called Zyglo (sp?).

A 1cc change in chamber volume is not significant.

No. I'm unable to do that. Just looking at it. I could send you a picture if I have your email?
